Custom game mode: Tag#893

Came up with an idea for a more casual game mode, akin to Eye Break, just for 2+ players.

Tag game mode rules:

  • Single hits only; no combos/strings allowed
  • The player hit becomes the Tagger; the other player(s) is the Runner
  • Projectiles don’t count as “tagging”
  • Hitting shield does not count as a “tag,” but being grabbed does
  • 3 minute timer
  • Stocks: 3 (to cover for self-KOs)
  • When a player dies from being tagged, forfeit a stock to keep the %s even)
  • The Runner may hit the Tagger with single hits to try to keep them out
  • Whoever is deemed the “Runner” when the timer expires is the winner

The above rules can be adjusted as players desire, but this is the rough draft of what my group has come up with.

I think this would be a unqiue and simple casual mode that would allow players to use the awesome movement mechanics in this game without having to focus on offense/defense at the same time.

Maybe intangibility can be added to the new Tagger for a brief time to prevent the original one from comboing to their heart’s content.

I’m just brainstorming at this point, so i’m open other opinions!

I think if it’s time only, it should be reduced down to 2 minutes or even 1 minute. I think also that if you are the tagged for too long it would be cool if you automatically exploded or just took ticks of damage to help keep the game feel speedy and exciting. Maybe even if you’re the runner you heal health

@Andrew Legall We tried doing one minute and that felt too fast. We opted for 3 and that felt pretty good, for us at least. I like the idea of healing as the runner.
