In some fighting games after playing a player your able to flag them as a rival of some sort.
Would be a nice feature in a game called rivals of aether where you can mark a few people as rivals so when you face them randomly online the game acknowledges this to you and maybe makes the character select screen more intense in the beggining to set the scene or something.
Could also have a lifetime match history against rivals as well to see overall who’s coming out on top most of the time

Sounds AWESOME

Would be cool if you could set them as a rival and it’s up to them to set it back, aka they can choose whether to acknowledge you or not. And if you match up with them again they get another chance to label you as rival.
Like how kakashi never acknowledged might guy as a rival until years down the line.
Though I guess I could see they’d probably want it to be more like a friend system

…of aether

I match into people I see all the time

I mean I feel like we might just be reinventing the wheel on friend, but I have to admit like adding someone and then just like comparing rankin with them later might be cool.

I’d definitely love to see something like this. A little coin reward for beating someone you tagged as a rival after a loss would be amazing, especially if the reward compounds if you keep losing to them.
This is sooooo smart branding -wise. Really leans into the game’s identity. “What is a Rival???”
Determine for yourself :P

You can build a whole reward system surrounding this and add so many cool features like, if you mark someone as a rival, you rematch them in a best of 5 next time you meet online or you can challange them directly. Then you can have a small list you can put people on to and they get removed after you win or they stay inactive for a day. Also you can set it up to beat their highest rating you both can achieve in a week and the winner gets a few coins. Or you can bet your own coins on the fight or the rating. There is so much room for cool ideas!

Brawlhalla shows you your win / loss count against a given player you run into online. This feature would be really cool for Rivals 2, especailly if they do set & game counts.
