Tech button online#792

It just doesn’t work consistently, man. I don’t know why a single button is so problematic. It’s not even like this is a stick flick, where you can understand why it’s not working. I’m not timing it wrong, it’s just not registering.

If you call it “tech button” i can assume you don’t fully understand how teching works. I would suggest you reading about it on wiki:

If it is an actual problem, you could’ve opened a replay and see whether you made the right input and it registered or not (and then upload it here).

@weaselsnore #MinaForRivals2 “Tech button” meaning a 20 frame buffered shield press with 20 frames of cooldown, as opposed to smash where the cooldown is 30 frames. Yes, I am more than aware of what I’m talking about. Sorry, I forgot I have to be exactly precise instead of using a term that costs fewer words.

It isn’t mistimed, it’s not happening. This happens with parries using the other trigger too, with the exact same frequency as spot dodges and rolls. I’ve tried nearly a dozen controllers with the same problem, leading me to conclude there’s something going on with the way the game processes these inputs on netcode.

You know that you can’t buffer tech during hitpause (except walltechs)? It has to be preemptive.
I’ve never heard of your problem before, maybe you can give some specific example? A replay? I’m sure there has to be an explanation to that

Specific example: I get hit by weak but still techable knockback at roughly 40% in neutral. In order to escape the follow up hit, I press the tech button less than 20 frames before hitting the ground after not touching it for more than 20 frames. The game swallows the input, I miss tech, and now I’m scrambling to change my thought process so I choose the least bad option out of the five. I can’t properly plan around this because I expected the button to actually work. I eat a strong attack.

You have to tech before hitpause or in the air. Pressing shield during hitpause puts your tech on a cooldown
