Provide Workshop Modders with a Style Guide!#715

The 3D models in RoA2 show WAY more detail than Rivals 1’s sprites. This means making something that feels in-style with the game is a lot more nuanced. As a result, if people are to make their own characters and models, the quality is likely vary a lot…

It would be an immense help if modders had a resource to reference when designing their fighters and creating their models! A style guide that explains how developers make sure their designs and models are high quality and consistent. Maybe even a bunch of tips for the designing process to help people who struggle with ideas. I just really want Workshop to have as many high quality original fighters as possible

Seconding this. Behind-the-scenes for how Rivals-style VFX is created would also be much-appreciated.

I would suspect they might be doing something like this, but want to not release it until they have the matching technical style guide ready, which would mean waiting until the behind-the-scenes stuff is completely set in stone. It might sound weird for them to be linked, but there could be unexpected overlap between the two.

Yeah I could believe that, but I felt I should post this just incase they hadn’t considered it yet

@Toomai To be honest, I can’t really see them having something like that prepared for the release of Workshop. Putting together those kinds of materials takes a lot of consideration and time, so I’m glad OP made this post to drum up awareness. I think the one thing they ARE coming out with straight from the beginning though, is Workshop templates of all 10 of the base roster characters with all their gimmicks in-tact. That alone should be pretty helpful already, but here’s hoping we do get that style guide!

We would love to have both a style guide and detailed technical guide. Right now, our team is pretty strapped developing both upcoming features and workshop characters so we’re going to need to launch Workshop Characters in a beta state (which is similar to what we did in Rivals 1 initially) and then move it out of beta once we have more features. A style guide would be perfect to launch when we move the workshop characters out of beta. We will only have a couple example characters too, but we plan to expand the cast as the feature gets more polished.

Glad to hear!!! That’s absolutely reasonable.
I’m very excited to design new fighters
