Pre-compile shaders for new patches/fresh installs#213

L

This is a big problem I and others have faced at in-person tournaments. Many tournaments are run either on the dev supplied builds (which is awesome, by the way) or other fresh installs. The result is that every time you generate any effect for the first time by hitting someone with a move, separately whiffing that move, etc, the whole game lags as it compiles the shaders for that interaction. This frequently results in the first game with any character that hasn’t been used on that setup being unplayably laggy and random lag spikes in later games if an effect comes up that didn’t in the previous games.

Many modern games fix this by making the player sit through an extra loading bar as they compile the shaders the first time you start up the game on a new patch. I’ve experimented at events with manually compiling the shaders by spamming all my moves and hitting an opponent with them before the first game (and telling my opponent to do the same), and it helps a lot. I believe an automatic compiler would alleviate many of the complaints from players about setups.

Also, please turn VSync off by default. TOs are not good about checking it, and it is almost always a performance + latency hit with no benefit.

I fully agree with this. Having to do every move in my kit before a tournament set isn’t really an acceptable thing to make players do, and it also makes the game look like it has huge performance issues.
(which I mean, it kind of does, but that’s another thing. Looking at you, Wrastor special pummel.)

Even just making it an option in the settings would be enough.

Having the game be compiling stuff and downloading the online data during the startup cutscene / on the start menu before you press a button also seems like a no brainer (but I’m not a programmer so you tell me)
